Richard Kenneth Schledorn, 80, of Calabash, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at home with his wife of 42 years, Barbara Schledorn.
He was born, March 16, 1930, in Auburn Hills, Mich., a son of the late Aloys and Cecile Schledorn.
Dick served in the Airborne division of the U.S. Air Force, as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He later attended Michigan State University and then was employed in the grocery business until his retirement in December 1995.

Richard Kenneth Schledorn, 80, of Calabash, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at home with his wife of 42 years, Barbara Schledorn.
He was born, March 16, 1930, in Auburn Hills, Mich., a son of the late Aloys and Cecile Schledorn.
Dick served in the Airborne division of the U.S. Air Force, as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He later attended Michigan State University and then was employed in the grocery business until his retirement in December 1995.
Dick was an avid golfer and in January 1996 he and his beloved wife Barbara moved from Maryland to Calabash, where he enjoyed driving the golf cart as a ranger at Panthers Run and Ocean Ridge golf communities.
He also enjoyed volunteering at Jesse May Monroe Elementary School as a tutor.
Dick is survived by his wife Barbara; his daughters, Ann Fletcher of Virginia, and Lynn Davis and her husband Rick of Vermont; his sons, Mark and his wife Stephanie of Oklahoma, Chris Knight and his wife Ann of Michigan, David and his wife Cindy of Michigan, and Rob and his wife Stacy of Maryland; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance and celebration was Monday, Jan. 10, in Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel in Shallotte.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers memorials be made to your local Humane Society (www.advocateforanimals.com) or the local CIS, Communities in Schools, P.O. Box 10087, Southport, NC 28461.
